You might think that a visual gag involving a woman with hair not dissimilar to that of King Charles II, dressed up as King Charles II might get old after a time. It doesn't! Or at least, it doesn't over the course of Bridget Christie's wonderfully bizarre 45-minute comedy show.

King Charles II muses on modern culture, the state of the monarchy since his time and the uselessness of contemporary footwear. Interspersed with these enjoyable sketches, Christie tells the audience how her favourite monarch has inspired the way she leads her life.

Bridget Christie is an amiable host to the plethora of characters she creates and although at times the audience interaction can feel a little stilted, there is a modesty and likeability that keeps the audience on side.

'The Court of King Charles II' is hardly going to change the face of comedy. However, if you’re after a lot of laughs then the show certainly delivers. [Tom Powell]
