Virgin Money Street of Light 2015: Scottish Thistle Awards Nomination

5th Oct 2016

We're delighted that the Virgin Money Street of Light 2015 has reached the regional finals at this year’s Scottish Thistle Awards. The Virgin Money Street of Light is nominated in the Best Cultural Event or Festival category for the Lothian and Borders region.

The Virgin Money Street of Light extended the celebration of Edinburgh’s Christmas out of the New Town and literally electrified one of Edinburgh, and Scotland’s, most famous streets with the installation of 24 arches of 60,000 lights, stretching 97 metres in length and up to 18 metres high. The lights synchronised to music sung by four choirs local to Edinburgh: the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, the Edinburgh Police Choir and the Edinburgh Gay Mens’ Chorus. The Virgin Money Street of Light achieved widespread recognition with 256,653 free tickets issued to people from 50 different countries, plus the hashtag #VMStreetofLight received over 54 million impressions on Twitter!

The awards, organised by VisitScotland in association with the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards, Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards, HIT Scotland, Scotland Food and Drink, Scottish Licenced Trade Association, Scottish Tourism Alliance, sportscotland and Wild Scotland, are hugely prestigious and honour the best of Scotland and what it has to offer.

We'd like to thank the Scottish Thistle Awards for the nomination, and wish all of the nominees best of luck!
