Welcome to our new website!
10th Jul 2014
Hello cow lovers, welcome to the brand new Underbelly website! We've been working hard behind the scenes to create something that reflects the sheer breadth of exciting activity here at Underbelly - we hope you like it!
It's turning into quite a year, from the Edinburgh Fringe to Southbank Centre, via Pride and West End Live and back to Edinburgh's Christmas. We're passionate about all our events and festivals and thought we'd take a moment to let you know what we've been up to, and what we've got in store...
Underbelly ran Edinburgh's Christmas celebrations in conjunction with Unique Events for City of Edinburgh Council for the first time in 2013-2014. With 2 sites featuring a Spiegeltent, markets, rides, an ice rink and an opening event hosted by Chris Hoy, we welcomed over 2.5 million people over 6 weeks. We're currently working on some great new ideas and improvements for 2014.
Underbelly designed, built and operated the stunning Nordic Bar at Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland in 2013.
Udderbelly Festival at Southbank Centre
Udderbelly just finished its 6th year at Southbank Centre, where we were privileged to have great circus and comedy names performing such as Omid Djalli, Ed Byrne, Frisky & Mannish and A Simple Space.
Also at Southbank Centre, we've brought back London's largest festival of cabaret and circus for its third year. Featuring a magnificent Spiegeltent with shows from LIMBO to Meow Meow and Al Murray, sideshows, a bandstand and outdoor bars, it truly is a playgrounf for the summer. We're there until the end of September.
The 'circus-cabaret extravaganza' continues its world tour. A co-production between Underbelly, Strut & Fret and Southbank Centre, the show so hot Madonna saw it twice has been on a world tour of Edinburgh, Adelaide and Sydney Festivals, Bogota in Columbia, and back to London Wonderground before it heads off to Brisbane, via Denmark.
The late May bank holiday saw the second installment of our Comedy Hullabaloo festival in Stratford-Upon-Avon, in association with the RSC. This year's line-up included Milton Jones, Roisin Conaty, Ardal O'Hanlon, Jason Manford and Al Murray.
West End Live
For the second year, Underbelly produced West End Live for SOLT and Westminster City Council on 21 and 22 June - the brilliant showcase of almost every West End Musical to a free audience in Trafalgar Square.
Underbelly are also delighted to have been appointed the event producer for Pride in London 2014, the second largest one day event in London.
We're helping MAMA group with the programming of the comedy and cabaret acts at their brilliant new Somersault Festival in Devon from 17 - 21 July.
This year Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe is 15 years young! This year we present over 130 shows in 16 venues, ranging from new writing to physical theatre via comedy and incorporating everything else in between! Underbelly Productions will also be producing 13 shows including Circa: Beyond and Hot Dub Time Machine.
2014 sees the launch of the Festival Wheel in East Princes Street Gardens from 14 July to 31 August, offering Edinburgh residents and visitors an incredible view over the beautiful city during the festival season.
And that's all folks! Keep checking back for updates and news on current and future projects.
Thanks For Coming! (It’s Not All Over…)
