Underbelly was established to operate Underbelly, Cowgate in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since then the company has grown and added new venues; in 2004 we took over the Niddry St Caves and have since run 3 spaces there under the name of Underbelly’s Baby Belly. In 2006, we created Udderbelly’s Pasture which incorporates E4 Udderbelly and E4 Cow Barn (Reid Concert Hall), at Bristo Square. In 2007 we added 10 nights of Silent Disco in the amazing McEwan Hall as well as site specifics works in George Square. In 2008, we incorporated Appleton Tower at the University into Udderbelly's Pasture to house Silent Disco and the Sell-Out theatre show Office Party. We therefore facilitated in 2008 13 performance spaces over 3 sites ranging in capacities from 50 to 400 seats, (1000 dancing in Appleton Tower!), with five bars, one cafe, one burger van, one Dairy Disco and 126 shows a day! In 2009, as well as Underbelly, Cowgate, E4 Udderbelly, E4 Cow Barn and McEwan hall, we introduce Underbelly’s Hullabaloo in George Square Gardens. Baby Belly has now been renamed Just The Tonic @ The Caves and has been programmed by Fringe veteran Darrell Martin.

LONDON VENUES

Underbelly joined forces with Southbank Centre in 2009 to bring E4 Udderbelly to the Southbank Centre for an exciting eclectic 8 week summer progamme. Check out our current shows here E4 Udderbelly at Southbank Centre. Stay tuned on news for future London ventures.

UNDERBELLY PROMOTIONS, PRODUCTIONS AND MANAGEMENT

In addition to our Edinburgh venues, Underbelly established in 2006 a promotions, productions and management subsidiary, named Underbelly Promotions to promote comedy acts, represent artists, and produce and manage theatre and comedy productions and tours. Brett Vincent is the head herder and it is now regarded as one of the best promotions agency in the business.

UDDERBELLY

Our exciting unique touring venue, Udderbelly, an innovative 400 seat temporary structure, is available for hire for corporate events, music and comedy festivals and tours.

WHO ARE WE

Underbelly was founded by executive directors Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood in 2000 to operate a venue at the Edinburgh Festival. Since then the company has grown and has recruited Brett Vincent to act as an additional executive director of Underbelly Promotions to manage the promotion and artist representation side of the business. Tom Page is the third founder and is a non-executive director.

We also have a number of permanent staff including General Manager, David Michel, Production Director, Kenny Easson and Technical Manager, Dave Watson. In more recent years, we have been joined by Martyne Green, to assist Brett Vincent in Underbelly Promotions, as well as our Administrator Marina Dixon. We have also been joined by Sarah Fleming this year to assist with General Management for E4 Udderbelly at Southbank Centre and Edinburgh Fringe 2009. Our main office is in London.
