We are looking for Sound Technicians for our larger spaces at the Edinburgh Fringe. You’ll be working with a team of Stage Managers and Lighting technicians to deliver the technical requirements of our visiting companies, and running the all sound elements of the venue with a counterpart.

As part of a largest arts festival in the world, you’ll be working with a range of world-class companies; we have a huge variety of shows made up of music, comedy, drama, burlesque, and circus acts. The Underbelly crew work hard to create fantastic venues and festival sites in Edinburgh, throughout the UK, and across the world. The Fringe Festival is the centrepiece of our year, and as a part of our Technical staff you will be a vital component of it.

Alongside a fellow Sound technician in the venue and lead by a Technical Manager, duties include:

·     Installing and fine tuning the PA

·     Programming the board and QLab for all shows

·     Maintaining the equipment

·     Mixing the sound as required for shows and managing the technical side of the venue.

We use an array of equipment, mainly comprised of D&B rigs with desks such as the Yamaha LS9 and QL1. Previous use of these and QLab under pressure in a festival environment is a great advantage.

The work is not limited to just sound, given that the role is part of a close-knit venue team working hard through the festival we are looking for positive and friendly candidates who will support and get involved in whatever tasks are required to help the overall team.

Venues split the days in two shifts, keeping working hours to a reasonable length averaging 8-9 hours a day through the run.

Successful candidates will benefit from:

  • competitive pay at National Living Wage level for entry level positions scaled upwards for more experienced candidates where hourly rate will be based on experience and everyday responsibilities
  • guaranteed pay of minimum of 32 hours per week based on a 6 day-week (pro-rated for people working fewer days)
  • paid breaks and agreed day off every week.

Your staff pass gives you the opportunity to see any show at all the Underbelly venues throughout the Fringe (depending on availability). Accommodation is not provided as part of the position; however, we can advise on where to find affordable accommodation, and also help match up with other technicians working with us to help find places. You should ideally be available for the entirety of August.

Please note that due to the large number of applicants, we will only be able to contact those selected for interview, with positions being filled from the 20th April.
